ഇവാൻസ് 1977-ൽ ബർണാഡ് കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് എ.ബി. ബയോളജിയിൽ ബിരുദം നേടി. 1981-ൽ ന്യൂജേഴ്‌സി-റോബർട്ട് വുഡ് ജോൺസൺ മെഡിക്കൽ സ്‌കൂളിലെ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റി ഓഫ് മെഡിസിൻ ആൻഡ് ഡെന്റിസ്ട്രിയിൽ നിന്ന് അവർ മെഡിക്കൽ ബിരുദം നേടി.[1][2] ഇവാൻസിന് എമോറി യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി സ്കൂൾ ഓഫ് മെഡിസിനിൽ ഇന്റേണൽ മെഡിസിനിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തര പരിശീലനവും നാഷണൽ ക്യാൻസർ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിലെ ക്ലിനിക്കൽ ഓങ്കോളജി പ്രോഗ്രാമിന്റെ മെഡിസിൻ ബ്രാഞ്ചിൽ മെഡിക്കൽ ഓങ്കോളജിയിൽ ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് പരിശീലനവും ലഭിച്ചു.[3]

ഒരു ഫിസിഷ്യൻ സയന്റിസ്റ്റായി പരിശീലനം നേടിയ ഒരു ഇന്റേണിസ്റ്റും മെഡിക്കൽ ഓങ്കോളജിസ്റ്റുമാണ് ഇവാൻസ്. ആരോഗ്യ അസമത്വങ്ങളിൽ എപ്പിഡെമിയോളജിക്കൽ ക്ലിനിക്കൽ ഗവേഷണവും ആരോഗ്യ അസമത്വങ്ങളുടെ ജീവശാസ്ത്രത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അടിസ്ഥാന ബെഞ്ച് ഗവേഷണവും അവർ നടത്തുന്നു. പാർപ്പിട അരക്ഷിതാവസ്ഥ, പൊണ്ണത്തടി, കാപ്പികുടി എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ഘടകങ്ങളുടെ ആരോഗ്യ ഫലങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് അവർ അന്വേഷിച്ചു.[4][5][6] ഇവാൻസും അവരുടെ സഹപ്രവർത്തകരും വാദിക്കുന്നത് രോഗിയെയും പൊതുജനാരോഗ്യത്തെയും ബാധിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പ്രധാന സാമൂഹിക പ്രശ്നമാണ് വംശം എന്നാണ്.[7][8] അവർ 2017 വരെ യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സ് പബ്ലിക് ഹെൽത്ത് സർവീസ് കമ്മീഷൻഡ് കോർപ്സിൽ അംഗമായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. ക്യാപ്റ്റനായി വിരമിച്ചു.[9]
