ആശുപത്രികളിൽ അത്യാഹിത നിലയിൽ എത്തിയവരെ പരിചരിക്കുന്നതിനായി പ്രത്യേകം സജ്ജമാക്കിയ മുറികൾക്കാണ് തീവ്ര പരിചരണവിഭാഗം.ഇൻറൻസീവ് കെയർ യൂണിറ്റ് (Intensive Care Unit'-ICU),അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ക്രിട്ടിക്കൽ കെയർ യൂണിറ്റ് (Critical Care Unit-CCU) എന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഇൻറൻസീവ് തെറാപ്പി യൂണിറ്റ് (Intensive Therapy Unit) അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഇൻറൻസീവ് ട്രീറ്റ്മെൻറ് യൂണിറ്റ്(Intensive Treatment Unit-ITU) തുടങ്ങിയ പേരുകളിലും ഈ വിഭാഗം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.[1]
