സർപ്പധരൻ രാശിയിലെ ഒരു ഗോളീയ താരവ്യൂഹമാണ് മെസ്സിയർ 12 (M12) അഥവാ NGC 6218. 1764 മേയ് 30-ന് ചാൾസ് മെസ്സിയറാണ് ഈ താരവ്യൂഹത്തെ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളൊന്നുമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു നീഹാരികയാണ് ഇതെന്ന് കരുതിയ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഇതിനെ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം അംഗമായി ചേർത്തു.[8]
നിരീക്ഷണം[തിരുത്തുക]
മെസ്സിയർ 10ൽ നിന്ന് 3 ഡിഗ്രിയും ലാംബ്ഡ ഒഫ്യൂക്കൈ നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 5.6 ഡിഗ്രിയും കോണീയ അകലത്തിലായാണ് M12 സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. തെളിഞ്ഞ ആകാശത്ത് ബൈനോക്കുലറുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാൽ തീരെ പ്രകാശം കുറഞ്ഞ ഒരു വസ്തുവായി ഇതിനെ കാണാനാകും. 8 in (20 cm) എങ്കിലും അപ്പെർച്വർ ഉള്ള ദൂരദർശിനി ഉപയോഗിച്ചാലേ താരവ്യൂഹത്തിലെ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെ വേർതിരിച്ചു കാണാനാകൂ.[9] 10 in (25 cm) അപ്പെർച്വർ ഉള്ള ദൂരദർശിനിയിലൂടെ വീക്ഷിക്കുമ്പോൾ 3 ആർക്‌മിനിറ്റ് വ്യാസമുള്ള കാമ്പും അതിനുചുറ്റും നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ 10 ആർക്‌മിനിറ്റ് പ്രഭാവലയവും കാണാനാകും.[8]
സവിശേഷതകൾ[തിരുത്തുക]
ഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്ന് M12 ലേക്കുള്ള ദുരം 15700 പ്രകാശവർഷമാണ്.[3] 75 പ്രകാശവർഷമാണ് താരവ്യൂഹത്തിന്റെ വ്യാസം, ഇതിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രഭയേറിയ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ ദൃശ്യകാന്തിമാനം 12 ആണ്. ഷാപ്‌ലി-സോയർ റേറ്റിങ് IX ഉള്ള ഈ താരവ്യൂഹത്തിന് നക്ഷത്രസാന്ദ്രത കുറവാണ്.[1] ഇക്കാരണത്താൽ M12 ഒരു തുറന്ന താരവ്യൂഹമാണെന്ന് ഒരുകാലത്ത് കരുതപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.
M12 ൽ ഇതുവരെ 13 ചരനക്ഷത്രങ്ങൾ നിരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2006-ൽ നടന്ന ഒരു പഠനം ഈ താരവ്യൂഹത്തിൽ പിണ്ഡം കുറഞ്ഞ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം അസാധാരണമാംവിധം കുറവാണെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തി. ഇത്തരം നക്ഷത്രങ്ങൾ ആകാശഗംഗയുടെ ഗുരുത്വാകർഷണം മൂലം താരവ്യൂഹത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതാകാമെന്നായിരുന്നു അനുമാനം.[10]
