ശിശിരനിദ്ര
ജന്തുലോകത്തെ ചില ജീവികൾ ശിശിരകാലങ്ങളിൽ ഉപാപചയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ കുറച്ച് ഒരുതരം നിദ്രാവസ്ഥയിൽ കഴിയുന്നതിനെയാണ് ശിശിരനിദ്ര (Hibernation)എന്നു പറയുന്നത്. ശിശിരകാലത്തെ അതിശൈത്യത്തിൽ നിന്നും രക്ഷപ്പെടാനും അക്കാലങ്ങളിൽ ഭക്ഷണ ലഭ്യത കുറയുന്നതിനാലുമാണ് ജീവികൾ ശിശിരനിദ്രയിലേർപ്പെടുന്നത്.
