[തിരുത്തുക]ഡോ.ലെഡ്ഗാഡ് ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത് മാരകമായി തീപ്പൊള്ളലേറ്റ് ജീവച്ഛവം ആകുകയും ഒരിക്കൽ തന്റെ തന്നെ പ്രതിരൂപം കണ്ട് ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പുന:സ്യഷ്ടിക്കുക എന്നതാണ്‌.അതിനായി തന്റെ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് സര്ജറിയിലുള്ള വൈദഗ്ദ്യം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു ,അയാൾ.ലെഡ്ഗാഡ് മറ്റെല്ലാം മാറ്റിവെച്ച് ഗവേഷണത്തിൽ മുഴുകുന്നു.നഗരപ്രാന്തത്തിലുള്ള,മരങ്ങൾ മറവു നൽകുന്ന, ഒരു പഴയ മാളികയിൽ അയാൾ തന്റെ പരീക്ഷണശാല ഒരുക്കുന്നു. ഇനി അയാൾക്ക് ഒരു പരീക്ഷണ'മ്യഗം' വേണം, പക്ഷെ അത് ഒരു മനുഷ്യനും ആകണം. പക്ഷെ വ്യക്തിജീവിതത്തിലുണ്ടാകുന്ന മറ്റൊരു ദുരന്തം കഥാഗതിയെ മാറ്റിമറിയ്ക്കുന്നു.ഒരു വിവാഹപ്പാർട്ടിയിൽ വെച്ച് തന്റെ മകൾ ബലാത്സംഗം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടതായി മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്ന ലെഡ്ഗാഡ് അതിനു കാരണക്കാരൻ ആയ വിസന്റ എന്ന,ഒരു തുണിക്കടക്കാരി സ്ത്രീയുടെ മകനായ യുവാവിനെ പിടികൂടുകയാണ്‌. അവനെ തന്റെ മാളികയിൽ തടവുകാരനാക്കി പാർപ്പിക്കുന്നു, ഡോക്ടർ പിന്നീട് അയാൾ മകളുടെ ദുരന്തത്തിനു പകരം വീട്ടുന്നത് വിചിത്രമായ രീതിയിൽ ആണ്‌ .അതാണ്‌ സിനിമയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ രഹസ്യം.പകയും രതിയും ഇടകലരുന്ന മനോഘടനയുള്ള അയാൾ, മകളോടുള്ള അടക്കാനാകാത്ത സ്നേഹവും ഭാര്യയോടുള്ള അഭിനിവേശവും മൂലം വിസന്റയെ ലിംഗമാറ്റശസ്ത്രക്രിയയ്ക്ക് വിധേയനാക്കുന്നു,തന്റെ ആ കൂറ്റൻ രഹസ്യാത്മക മാളികയിൽ വെച്ച്.ഹോർമോണുകളും മറ്റ് മരുന്നുകളും നൽകി അവനെ ആറ് വർഷം കൊണ്ട് 'അവൾ' ആക്കി മാറ്റുകയാണ്‌ ലെഡ്ഗാഡ്. 'വേര' എന്ന് പേര്‌ നൽകി അയാൾ അവളെ ഒരു സുന്ദരിയാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നു.ലെഡ്ഗാഡ് 'വേര'യിൽ തന്റെ പുത്തൻ ചർമ്മം വെച്ചുപിടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.അതിസൂക്ഷ്മവും ആയാസകരവുമായ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾക്കൊടുവിൽ അയാൾ തന്റെ ദൗത്യത്തിൽ വിജയം വരിക്കുന്നു തീപ്പൊള്ളലേൽക്കാത്ത,പ്രാണീദംശനം ഏൽക്കാത്ത അത്ഭുതചർമ്മം.
ബാഹ്യമായി ഒരു പൂർണസ്ത്രീ ആയി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്ന വേര പക്ഷെ ആന്തരികമായി വിസന്റ തന്നെ ആയി അവശേഷിക്കുന്നു.അവനിലെ പുരുഷൻ തന്റെ ബാഹ്യശരീരത്തിലെ എല്ലാ പരിണാമങ്ങൾക്കും ശേഷവും പുരുഷനായിത്തന്നെ തുടരുകയാണ്‌.ലിംഗ അവസ്ഥയും ലൈംഗികസ്വത്വവും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലിൽ 'അവനു' മുൻപിൽ 'അവൾ' കീഴടങ്ങുന്നു.ലെഡ്ഗാഡിൽ നിന്നു രക്ഷ നേടാനും പക വീട്ടാനും 'അവനു ' മുൻപിൽ രണ്ട് മാർഗങ്ങളെ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നുള്ളൂ : ഒന്ന് സ്വയം ഹത്യ -അതിന്‌ രണ്ട് തവണ ശ്രമിച്ച് പരാജയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട് വേര-മറ്റൊന്ന് അയാളെ പ്രലോഭിപ്പിച്ച് കെണിയിൽ വീഴ്ത്തി രക്ഷപ്പെടുക. രണ്ടാമത്തെ മാർഗ്ഗം സുന്ദരിയും ലൈംഗിക ആകർഷണം തികഞ്ഞവളുമായ വേരയ്ക്ക് വളരെ എളുപ്പമായിരുന്നു. കഥാന്ത്യത്തിൽ വേര ലെഡ്ഗാഡിനെ ലൈംഗികബന്ധത്തിനിടെ വധിക്കുന്നു.
