കാനഡയിലെ പ്രവിശ്യയായ ക്യൂബെക്കിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നഗരവും കാനഡയിലെ ഏറ്റവും അധികം ജനസംഖ്യയുള്ള നഗരങ്ങളിൽ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനത്തുള്ള നഗരവുമാണ് മൊൺട്രിയാൽ (Montreal /ˌmʌntriˈɒl/ ⓘ;[14] French: [mɔ̃ʁeal] ⓘ; officially Montréal) ഫോർട്ട് വില്ലി മേരി([Fort Ville-Marie, "City of Mary") എന്നായിരുന്നു ഈ നഗരത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യകാല നാമധേയം[15] നഗരമധ്യത്തിലുള്ള മൗണ്ട് റോയൽ എന്ന കുന്നിന്റെ പേരിൽനിന്നുമാണ് മൊൺട്രിയാൽ എന്ന പേർ വന്നത് [16] മൊൺട്രിയാൽ ദ്വീപിലാണ് ഈ നഗരത്തിന്റെ സിംഹഭാഗവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.[17][18] നാല് ഋതുക്കളും കൃത്യമായി അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്ന ഇവിടത്ത് ഉഷ്ണകാലം ചൂടുള്ളതും ശൈത്യകാലം ഹിമപാതമുള്ളതുമാണ് .[19] 2016-ലെ ജനസംഖ്യ 17,04,694 ആയിരുന്നു.[9] ഫ്രഞ്ച് ഭാഷയാണ് നഗരത്തിലെ ഔദ്യോഗിക ഭാഷ [20] [21] പാരിസ് കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ലോകത്തിൽ ഫ്രഞ്ച് മാതൃഭാഷയായി ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ സംസാരിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന നഗരവുമാണ് മൊൺട്രിയാൽ.
